First of all, congrats to all those involved in putting esports in the limelight with all the media publicity.
There are a few things I gotta be honest regarding this newspaper article after reading it a couple of times.
We're talking about revolutionizing the esports scene in Sarawak. Job well done with the extensive media coverage. HOWEVER, the content of the article itself seems to differ. In my point of view, it's a cheap plug of elevating ESWC and SMM Dota events rather than explaining what's in for the gamers apart from how much they could potentially earn per month which i reckon is completely baseless. Let's look at things realistically, which parent who read the article would go to their children and say "Hey son, u should probably be a part of this revolution and u can earn US$ XXXX a month, think about it"
Yes, we need those events as part of the revolution. That is for TRU to complement it in. Then again, the message that should be sent across to the media is, what are the missions and goals for a gamer to be a part of this revolution? No doubt, mission statement is stated in the acronym for TRU - Teamwork, Revolution (in e-sports) and Unity (to unite all e-sports enthusiasts). Readers, particularly parents would like to know more how "TRUE" is TRU.
Given the fact that ESWC has been postponed to god knows when due to the worldwide economic crisis, I can't help but stating out the WHAT IFS? I would like to question the crew of TRU one by one by asking.. "What if it doesn't work out eventually? What if the crew is ready and the parent crew are not? Wouldn't you be deceiving the public?" I may not know what's going on with the event calendar planned by TRU, but i'm just pointing out facts of a normal reader who just happens to stumble upon this article.
Having said that, I bare full responsibility for every single statement I said and hold on to it. To get things straight, I do not intend to put the spirits down, I would just like to give constructive criticism as someone who fought for the exact same cause over the years so that the esports scene would eventually flourish into a successful one in due time.
Signing off,
The Has Been

The article isnt to elevate E-Sports Events like ESWC and SMM. It is more like an informative article to show and inform the public about the CURRENT E-sports exposure and development in our local community as well as in Malaysia. Why do we emphasize on these 2 events you might ask. First and foremost, ESWC is the 1st E-sports event that Malaysia managed to raise the nations flag at the top 3 podium internationally. Its the same as all the hype media gets when a Malaysian gets top 3 in the Olympics. But our community/parents/viewers do not have education on what ESWC is all about. So the article explains what actually ESWC is all about. Next case. Why SMM? Malaysia's first internationally recognized E-Sports event is undoubtedly SMM. Which other E-Sports event has been held in Malaysia that has been participated by at least 5 other countries? Raking in a record of a approximate whopping RM100,000 in total prize money and sponsors. Even the CEO of SMM was given the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Award 2008 for his contribution in SMM. Is the community aware of this event? No. So i still strongly emphasize that the motive of this article isnt to promote these 2 events but rather to create awareness to the public about the major E-Sports events that has brought an impact to our Nation. Let's look at things realistically, which parent who read the article would go to their children and say "Hey son, u should probably be a part of this revolution and u can earn US$ XXXX a month, think about it" Regarding your quote above, this article isnt to tell the public/parents that they should let their children be involved in E-Sports or "This revolution" because they can earn US$XXXX a month. E-Sports is still regarded as taboo/unhealthy by the elder community/parents. By INFORMING them through this article, they can at least see and know that E-Sports not just about playing games. Professional gamers can still earn something back in return. Im not giving them false hope by saying they definitely will earn US$ XXXX a month if they get involved in E-Sports. Those that earn US$ XXXX a month are most definitely players that are at the top of the market and cant be achieved without sacrifice and dedication. Its the same as other sports. For example, Datuk Lee Chong Wei earns RM XXXX per month as his salary. Will parents who read the news about his salary go to their children and say; "Hey son, u should probably be a part of the Malaysian badminton team and u can earn RM XXXX a month, think about it" Get my drift? The article is to tell the public how lucrative E-Sports can get as well. As the same as other sports, to earn your values worth, you still have to be the best of the best. It seems to me that you are actually taking the article abit too personally rather than absorbing it as a 3rd person. If you read the 1st line of the article properly; "T.R.U. e-Sports Club, a community of e-sports enthusiasts, together with Gizmo Gamers Cyber Cafe, plan to organise more e-sports events in Sarawak, especially in Kuching." never said anything about promoting ESWC and SMM. Even the title didnt mention anything about promoting the 2 events, but rather to summarize E-sports development/information as a whole in Malaysia as well as Internationally. What is E-Sports. How far has E-Sports achieved and develop from the early 2000's until now. How Malaysia is doing in the E-Sports scene. What T.R.U.E-Sports club is trying to do for the local E-Sports Community. These are the information for readers that the article is intended for. I sincerely hope you understand. I certainly hope that clears any doubts about the intention of the article written by Eastern Times. And dont worry about putting our spirits down because we will certainly find a solution for our E-Sports community here in Kuching. Regards, Kenneth (L.J) Lim.

i do appreciate your clarification on the matter and it sounds reasonable and justifiable. Just one though. The main reason why I said it is deemed as a cheap plug for the events is because, "journalistically (if theres such a word)" thinking, the title was irrelevant with the content especially in the end part of the article. Using your example of badminton, lets say back in the 50s or 60s i'm not sure when badminton started to hit its peak in Malaysia, a title on an article says "Badminton: a fast growing trend", what i would expect from the content as a badminton enthusiast would be, why is it a growing trend? what are the efforts that are being laid down by the pre-BAM people? How are we gonna heaten up the trend. Yes no doubt, the article did mention that TRU and Gizmo's efforts in promoting the scene and the introduction of ESWC can be likened to the achievement obtained in Thomas Cup victories. For sure, the mechanism of the Thomas Cup organizing team would not be published simply because it's irrelevant. Whoever, in the right mind, would give a bull about who's the master licensee of the Thomas Cup? That is my exact view as a reader of an article. Cos I simply can't interpret the conveyed message. As to your assumption of taking this article personal, here's my personal view which is way simple and I can finish it with one sentence. With all due respect and as your friend in real life, Kelvin Pang aka Deek says, "This article is a publicity stunt to cement deals and many lines are obviously being fed to gain mileage cos it's so not you". Anyway, nuff said. My personal views don't take into account on anything simply because I'm free to think whatever I want. So let's just put it aside. All I can say is, very well, this path of heating up this trend is on the right direction, which is through media. Kudos to that. Just somehow reckon that there's more to it rather than the commercial side of the trend. Hope to see and hear more ground-breaking surprise from the community and crew. Lastly, all readers, please do not blow this discussion out of proportion alright? There's no beef going on between any parties. Not even a storm in a teacup. I'm curious, I question, I get feedback, I rebutt, that's it. that's what a forum is for isn't it? end of story.

"Whoever, in the right mind, would give a bull about who's the master licensee of the Thomas Cup?" I totally agree with your statement there. However before you start to misunderstand things; during the interview with the article's writer, he requested us to provide information regarding ESWC Malaysia. Perhaps the article would have been better off without the sentence "Go International Group is the Master Licensee of ESWC in Malaysia and directly manages:" to avoid this misunderstanding. The requested information regarding ESWC Malaysia unfortunately states about the licensee holder for the event thus the writer included that in the article. I would have to say it was a mistake for us to have overlooked that sentence and apologize for the confusion and misunderstanding that arose. Kelvin Pang aka Deek says, "This article is a publicity stunt to cement deals and many lines are obviously being fed to gain mileage cos it's so not you". Again, you have misunderstood the true meaning of why this article was written. It was in fact Eastern Times who approached us and requested to write the article. We asked the writer about his views on E-Sports and why he wanted to cover it as an article in the Eastern Times. His reply was: "The OneTJ Competition was the 1st ever DotA competition I attended. I was surprise to see how computer game tournaments can actually be held at professional level. Maybe there's actually more to E-Sports than just playing games. Its fascinating to see 5 players competing against another 5 players through computers." Those were his exact words. So no. This is not a publicity stunt to cement any deals at all. I hope you understand now. But i sincerely am thankful for bringing your opinion to light. We will try to filter the easily misunderstood for E-Sports articles in the near future. Its also comforting to know that you are still concern about the E-Sports Community here. We wouldnt have been able to achieve what we have achieved right now without the past and present crew. All thanks and gratitude to those that were involved and supporting us. i think this whole scenario is like han xiang ask you throw flashbang, he go out sapu all. put in dota line is like han xiang ask u to use all the skills, he triple kills twice. you know who "you" are and who han xiang is. Well, eeeleee, what have you ever done for the E-Sports community in Kuching? T.R.U wouldnt have survived until now if not for the experience faced by those who started Kliqq. I seriously dont understand what your trying to pull off by making that statement. More misunderstandings?

It's all good. All i want and hope for is for the crew to bring out the best in themselves. I've moved on, but still my heart is wishing that the crew can carry the flag and make something out of what was forseen as just a dream.
Then again, that doesn't stop me from expressing my views openly if I see loopholes. There's no personal vendetta towards the current "administration" as some people might speculate that there's a hell lot of "Mahathirism" in me.
With this matter put to a close, I would like to wish TRU esports club in their future endeavors. You have my blessings.
On the side note, you guys have made it this far, time to fkn' register the club with the Registrar of Societies and quickly gain approval and endorsement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports. lol

Ah, finally this board has show some love and getting addictive. i can see the level of paranoid in here and the seriousness in your face. Good thing is with all due respect here, I give you props. If you ever thinks my previous post making more misunderstandings between you and ppc, wrong. But the you is for you, and heck hx is someone i don't trust and for you to figure it out. You as a whole is still a fren to me. I'm not here to shoot you nor did I ever thought of that and many times I've said to others. To your questions of what I ever did, look back and tell me i'm not part of kliqq, The need of picture of the first mock cheque in UC should be in here, i'm just too lazy to upload it. Many old schoolers have did the exact same things before someone screwed it up back then, thus lead many into not putting the trusts anymore. My ramblings end here.
