First and foremost, congratulations to GG Falcon and Team DC for their outstanding performance in the Ang Pow Inivitational Tournament. Both teams have really put up a good show. To be honest, as a more cs-oriented player, this was the first time I've watched a dota match replay. I just regret for not being able to watch the game LIVE back in kuching to see the tension, passion and mental preparation put up by those 2 teams.
Anyway, the dota community right now has received the strongest support and participation by far. I see new and old faces coming in. The so-called "power-struggle" for the no.1 spot has swerved. Clan Fallen were unbeaten for approximately a year from july 2006 - 3rd quarter of 2007. Then teams like GG Falcon managed to beat the giants in the previous Cozee Dota Tournament and lately, Team DC managed to repeat Falcon's feat in the Ang Pow tournament. Could this mean disaster to Clan Fallen? I don't think so. It has always been very 'healthy' in a way for different clans to emerge as champions for different tournaments. The desire and hunger from losing teams would aim to upstage the champions in future tournaments. Unlike CS, clans such as Team.A.InteL and Forest dominated the local scene for years, this is one of the core reasons why other teams/new faces do not emerge as all honours were monopolized by the aforementioned teams. But credits to those teams, they managed to hang on to their dominance and they deserve it.
Having seen Clan Ks from Johor strutting their skills and teamwork in international events, I believe it is about time for the local teams in Kuching to step up and fight with other teams in West Malaysia or Sabah. With the current crop of new blood surfacing in Kuching's dota community, it'll be just a matter of time when some clan from Kuching comes out of nowhere to join the "ELITE CLUB" of top Dota teams in Malaysia. The average age for the top 3 teams in the ang pow tournament is roughly 19 years old, excluding DC HoD i suppose (hehe). So time is on those players' side. Its all up to them. Tournament organizers and other potential teams will be playing supporting role for the time being.
Well, it's a joint effort to determine the path of glory for the Kuching's gaming community as a whole. During my days as a competitive gamer, all teams were scattered around Kuching, there were no sense of belongingness in terms of fighting for the entire community. Its mainly for the clan. The stride has swerved now, and thankfully, cyber cafes are situated nearby (5-10 mins drive between Dc,roamnet,gg and cozee). Gizmo Gamers, to me, is considered the Wembley Stadium (England national football stadium) of esports for now due to its facilities such as the war room, LCD tv to watch live matches, etc. Yes, teams do have their own training grounds, they have their own rivalries. But what mattered most was, whenever Gizmo Gamers hosts tournaments, it brings togetherness, it shows unity of the gaming community. I couldn't forget the day when more than 100 people turned out to watch the GG Amateur tournament final @ Jalan Song. NOW THAT IS WHAT I CALL UNITY!
Therefore, I would like to call upon the entire gaming community in Kuching to stick together and work for one common goal. There's no other time better than NOW to do so. Cheers!
